National Donkey Welfare Day, May 17th of every year

The National Donkey welfare Day in Kenya is celebrated on 17th May in all the project areas. The main theme is “promoting the image of the donkey among the people”. This is normally achieved through enlightening of the public on the usefulness and plight of donkeys. The strategy involves activities which highlight the crucial role played by the donkey on the local economies and thus the need to improve their welfare.

National Donkey day activities include:

  • Providingadvice, information (on donkey welfare, management and husbandry)
  • Providing treatment to needy donkeys.
  • Sharing ideas on donkey welfare by various key stakeholders - engaging participants including general public, groups, local councils and leaders in all capacities.
  • Promoting image of the donkey in the public through television and radio publicity
